So when it comes to Bean’s sleeping habits we haven’t always been so lucky. True, she sleeps through the night now! But that didn’t happen overnight. It was a struggle.
Living in an apartment in Korea we first had to overcome the hurdle of noisy upstairs neighbors. Elephants all of them! Enter the noise machine. I know. I know! You are supposed to get your child used to sleeping with occasional disturbances. Well it wasn’t happening, so I chose parental sanity over possible sleep problems later on down the line. Do you ever get the feeling that that is all parenting is? Do I deal with this problem now or later? I thought we might be able to retire the noise machine when we moved back to the states. But I forgot how noisy the suburbs are, especially during the summer time. Sprinklers, lawn mowers and fireworks oh my! By the time we made it through Korean apartments and the suburban cacophony Bean was hooked on the noise machine. We have been through several noise machines so far. One stopped working. One came broken. Though I haven’t found the perfect one, I have found the right one for now- the Palermo White Noise Machine.
We started with the HoMedics SoundSpa Relaxation Machine. It was recommended by several individuals. My sister in particular has been repurchasing this exact model since my nephew was born. She raves about it. The real upside? The price. At twenty dollars if it breaks it’s not a hardship to repurchase. But that is why we ended up moving on. You do have to repurchase it over and over again over the life of your child.
The selling point for me is the Palermo’s portability. When used at home, it runs off a standard wall outlet. But if you add 4 double-A’s the unit is portable. Just unplug and go! The batteries will last at least three full nights’ sleep. My husband's family loves to go RV camping, but we only have a tent. Camping in a tent in a RV campground is the worst. So loud! This is how I know that the batteries will last three nights. A bit ridiculous that I had to use a noise machine while camping. Even more ridiculous that it was playing rain sounds.
The only downside to the Palermo is its heft. It will add considerable weight to a diaper bag. But if I am assured the same great quality that we experience at home, I will deal with the additional baggage. To be fair, we have had to repurchase the Palermo as well. We learned the hard-way that this machine cannot withstand the rough ministrations of my toddler. But few things can. I – in my frustration and panic – completely forgot that the Palermo has a lifetime replacement warranty. If the unit ever gets the boot off our changing table again, I will be taking advantage of it. The Palermo is four out of five eggs. A solid choice. If only it were a little bit lighter, it would be a full five eggs. If you are looking for a quality portable noise machine the Palermo Noise Machine is it. Go check it out now!
